What is 'new for old'?
The AA home insurance does not believe that you should have to pay out of pocket to replace items that are lost or damaged beyond repair. That is why with the "new for old" advantage, your claim will be processed considering today's purchase price for most items, rather than the original value of the item.
Do I have to pay an excess, if so, how much?
An excess is the amount you contribute if you make a claim. The standard policy excess is £50, however, this is increased for claims under buildings insurance for incidents resulting from subsidence, heave or landslip. There is no excess for Home Emergency Cover, liability claims or legal expense claims over £100.
Can I pay a voluntary excess?
Yes, if you pay a voluntary excess, over and above the standard, premium discounts are available.
What is accidental damage cover?
Accidental damage cover applies to those incidents that occur out of your control, such as putting your foot through the ceiling while you're in the loft. The AA's standard buildings insurance automatically provides accidental damage cover. Additionally, the AA's contents insurance gives accidental damage cover to non-portable electrical and gas appliances and can include the rest of your contents subject to an extra payment.
Will my building society accept the AA's policy?
Yes, and the AA will provide the extra documents they require free of charge.
Will the AA pay any admin fees if I move away from my building society?
Yes, up to a value of £25, upon proof of payment.

What help do I get in the event of a claim?
The AA's Home Emergency Line is available 24 hours a day. A helpful AA representative will assist you in completing your claim.
Will the AA cover me if I work from home?
The AA is usually able to cover those who work from home, and often without increased premiums, contact AA to learn more.
Are the contents of my shed or garage covered?
Yes, contents in outbuildings are covered up to a maximum of £3,000 in total.

Can I spread my payments and pay by monthly instalments?
Yes, the AA offer payment by instalments.
How secure is my online payment?
The AA is committed to providing this security for you. The AA's secure-server software encrypts all the details in your online transaction. The encryption process takes the characters you enter and converts them into a coded form, which is then securely transmitted.
